Members of Patriots' Path Council Philmont contingent crews have the opportunity to earn a variety of awards and recognitions (both individual and crew) during preparation for and completion of their Philmont trek.
Patriots' Path Contingent Patch

  1. Reads the "Discover the History and Geology of the Gardens of the Gods" brochure
  2. Completes the hike.
  3. Works together as a crew.
  4. Completes the questions and exercises.
Arrowhead Patch

Patch presented by adult advisor to each crew member who:
  1. Attends the opening campfire--"The New Mexico Story."
  2. Completes a Philmont-approved itinerary with their crew.
  3. Completes at least three hours of staff supervised conservation work or a camp improvement project on Philmont.
  4. Fulfills the personal commitment to the Wilderness Pledge.
  5. Lives the Scout Oath and Law
"We All Made It" Award

Plaque presented by Philmont to each crew that:
  1. Demonstrated good camping practices and Scouting spirit.
  2. Followed an approved itinerary and camped only where scheduled.
  3. Fulfilled the commitment to the Wilderness Pledge.
Duty to God Award

(purchase from Tooth of Time Traders after completing requirements)
Patch available to each crew member who under the guidance of the crew's Chaplain Aide:
  1. Attends a religious service while at Philmont, participate in at least three daily devotionals with their crew, and lead Grace before a meal.
  2. Obtains the Chaplain Aide signature to certify completion of requirements.
  3. Chaplain Aide secures a "Duty to God" brochure for the crew upon completion of the trek.
Wilderness Pledge Achievement Award

(purchase from Tooth of Time Traders after completing requirements)
Patch available to each crew member who under the guidance of the crew's Wilderness Guia (Guide):
  1. Takes part in the Ranger-led-training for the Philmont Wilderness Pledge and Leave No Trace.
  2. Follows all Philmont Camping Practices as outlined by the Ranger throughout the trek.
  3. Practices all Philmont Bear and Wildlife procedures throughout the trek.
  4. Takes part in seven trail discussions with your crew that will focus on one of the seven principles of Leave No Trace and find examples of the focus principle during that day of the trek.
  5. Completes three hours of conservation work under the direction of a member of the Philmont Staff.  (This requirement is also one of the requirements to earn the Philmont arrowhead Patch.  These hours count for both awards.)
Villa Philmonte patch

Patch presented by Patriots' Path Council to each crew member who takes the tour of Waite Phillips' summer home, the Villa Philmonte.
La Docena Adventurado (the Adventurous Dozen) Award

Streamer presented by Philmont to recognize crews with the recommended full complement of 12 crew members.

50-Miler Award

The 50-Miler Award is presented to each qualifying individual for satisfactory participation in an approved trip.  In order to qualify for the award the group of which the individual is a member must fulfill all of the following requirements.
  1. Make complete and satisfactory plans for the trip, including the possibilities of advancement.
  2. Cover the trail or canoe or boat route of not less than 50 consecutive miles; take a minimum of 5 consecutive days to complete the trip without the aid of motors.  (In some areas pack animals may be used.)
  3. During the time on the trail or waterway, complete a minimum of 10 hours each of group work on projects to improve the trail, springs, campsite, portage or area.  If after checking with recognized authorities, it is not possible to complete 10 hours each of group work on the trail, a similar project may be done in the unit's home area (There should be no unauthorized cutting of brush or timber.)
  4. Unit or tour leader must then file a 50-Miler Award application with the local council service center. This application gives additional details about planning the trip.
Backpacking Merit Badge
