Wilderness and Remote First Aid Training
In 2008 Philmont changed the first aid training requirement to be at least one crew member to be certified in Wilderness First Aid (WFA, a 16-hour course) rather than Standard First Aid. Knowing it can be both difficult and expensive to obtain WFA training, Patriots’ Path Council established a program using BSA volunteer trainers to keep the costs to a minimum. Training sessions are limited, so check your calendar and the Wilderness First Aid page on the Watchu Web site for the available dates, as well as fees and a registration form.
Chief Watchu recommends that each crew have three members certified in WFA. For encouragement, three vouchers equal in value to the cost of the council WFA course will be given to each crew. Upon registration for a council WFA course (or successful completion of an approved WFA course from another provider), the vouchers can be used for merchandise from the Watchu Mountain Outfitters.
